Nagaland Education Dept has excess teachers: Sukhalu

  Our Correspondent Kohima | June 21 The 13th annual general conference of Nagaland School Education Administrative Officers’ Association (NSEAOA) was held here today at Capital Convention Centre with School Education advisor K.T. Sukhalu as the speaker.   Addressing the conference, Sukhalu said the SSA teachers had gone agitation demanding 7th ROP including other demands. He said the department took up the matter and the finance department has agreed in principle that they will be given 7th ROP.   Stating that the department has excess teachers, he said to bring down the number of teachers is going to be a huge problem “because if our students enrolment is enough them we can justify.”   He however said that the student enrolment is going down over the years, adding that not only the enrolment but the performance is also going down below satisfactory. In this, he said, the department is working mechanism on it.   Stating that the department is definitely aware of the problem and requirement of the officers on promotional aspect, he assured to put the matter to the P&AR department.   He however said that it is not the education department that will take decision alone but it has to go through proper channel.   In this, he said submission of the required documents is necessary so that it would be easier for the department to process the file and also easier for P&AR to ensure that their case is cleared.   Stating that the attendance of the teachers in the school has become a huge problem, he said that department is initiating a proposal for biometric attendance of teachers to ensure that teachers are there in station.   He regretted that many teachers are not really in schools but they get the salary.   “Many staff are not attending to their duties,” he said adding that they should resign if they don’t want to teach and give a change to the young educated boys and girls who have seen what is happening today to the society and they want to bring about change.   Sukhalu said that he will be working out another mechanism for gathering source of information to check the attendance of teachers in the schools.   Meanwhile, the urged upon the Association to extend their cooperation with the department to strengthen and streamline education system in the state.   Earlier, NSEAOA president Y. Khetoshe Yepthomi called for review of the service rule in the department. School education principal director Smita Sarangi also present at the conference.
