The 48th Biennial General Conference of the Northern Angami Students’ Union (NASU) got underway at Chedema, hosted by Chedema Village Students’ Union (CVSU).

Nagaland School Education & SCERT Advisor, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome graced the inaugural session on Saturday. He emphasised that education is the key to liberation and societal progress and encouraged society to prioritise education.

Highlighting the Northern Angami region’s strategic advantage of housing the state capital, Dr Yhome encouraged students to be broad-minded and accommodating. He also called for long-term community visions.

Dr Yhome stressed that societal status is now determined by education rather than wealth and urged students to work hard.

Addressing the evolving landscape of education and technology, he emphasised the growing role of machine learning and digital learning, especially post-COVID-19, and the need to stay globally competitive.

Dr Yhome highlighted the state government’s commitment to youth empowerment under Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, advocating for merit-based government job selection through the NPSC and NSSB.

Expressing concern over the preference for private schools despite the presence of qualified government teachers in Government schools, he urged increased enrollment in government schools.

Regarding rural-to-urban migration, he pointed out Northern Angami’s advantage due to its proximity to the capital and encouraged reverse migration for village development.

Khriesamhalie David Mere, President, Angami Students' Union (ASU) and Kedu-o Zumu, President, Northern Angami Public Organisation (NAPO) shared greetings. Presidential address was delivered by Atouzo Kerhüo, President NASU.

Kenei Belho, Founder of Kenbel Pencil Brand, shared his entrepreneurial journey and recounted how he started his newspaper pencil business. He inspired the students to dream big.

Special songs were presented by the Chiechama Students' Union and Rüsoma Village Students' Union. The programme was led by Meteitoulie Talie, Vice-President of NASU, and a prayer was offered by Mhaleneil Anthony Keyho, Senior Catechist at Holy Cross Church, Chedema.
