Nagaland Election Result 2023: Nagaland elects its first women legislators

Dimapur, March 2 (MExN): Nagaland, on March 2, elected its first women representatives to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) with one official win so far, and two others poised to secure their seats. 

Out of four women contenders in the general elections to the 14th NLA held on February 27, Hekhani Jakhalu of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) contesting 3-Dimapur III Assembly Constituency (AC) has been officially declared elected, while her party member Salhoutuonuo Kruse from the 8 Western Angami AC has garnered enough votes to secure a seat.

Hekhani defeated hear nearest opponent, Azheto Zhimomi of Lok Janshakti Party(Ram Vilas) by a margin on 1536 votes.

Meanwhile, as of 1:25PM on the ECI’s results portal, Salhoutuonuo had collected 51.68% of the total 12201 counted in the 8 Western Angami AC with total voters of 17567. However, unofficial account, thereafter informed that she has secured the seat.

Bharatiya Janata Party’s Er Kahuli from 32 Atoizu AC had also garnered vote share of 54.16% at 1:25PM and most likely to secure the constituency. 
The fate of Rosy Thomson, the Indian National Congress candidate from 6 Tenning AC, however, was less likely with just 0.43 of the total votes counted so far.
