Nagaland extends lockdown till June 18 with more relaxations

Kohima, June 9 (MExN): The Nagaland Government on Wednesday has decided to extend the ongoing lockdown period by one more week till June 18, but with more relaxations.

The decision regarding the extension was taken during the meeting of the High Power Committee (HPC) on COVID-19 chaired by State Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio at the CM's Residential office on June 9. 

‘Views of the District Task Force (DTF) were taken through video conferencing and it has been a consensus to continue lockdown with more relaxation, said a statement issued by HPC Spokesperson Neiba Kronu after the meeting. 

It further informed that the HPC has recommended the Nagaland ‘COVID-19 War Room’ for enhancing shopping timing of essential commodities. 

Maximum of 20 twenty members and below will be allowed in the Churches for prayer services, it added. 

Meanwhile, the statement further said that labours from outside without negative report will not be allowed into the State while non-stoppage of trains at Dimapur Railway Station will continue. 

Stationery shop will also be allowed to open and online classes for educational institutions will continue, it added. 

Nagaland first imposed total lockdown measures break the chain and prevent the spread of COVID-19 from May 14-21, which was later extended to May 31. 

On May 28, with no decline in the number of new positive cases, the lockdown, however, was extended till June 11.

The latest extension till June 18, with some easing of curbs, might the initiation of unlocking on phase manner, as followed during the first wave last year. 

Number of COVID-19 cases in Nagaland reached 23051 on June 8 with the detection of 133 new cases.
