Swachh Survekshan 2018 survey report has put Nagaland 3rd dirtiest state in the country

Nagaland state is highly unlikely to inspire when it comes to cleanliness, going by the Swachh Survekshan 2018 report, a cleanliness survey conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, the results of which was announced recently.
According to the survey, Nagaland pitifully stands in the bottom three, only behind Puducherry (Union Territory) and Tripura, the dirtiest state in the country. The state is also ranked as the second dirtiest state among the North East states, only next to Tripura.
The aim of the Swachh Survekshan 2018 survey was to estimate levels of cleanliness across cities (Urban Local Bodies) in the country. The ranking of the ULBs, separately done for those with a population of one lakh or more (national ranking) and those below one lakh (zonal rankings), was based on assessment of progress from January 2017 till December 2017. In the national ranking, two cities from Nagaland - Dimapur and Kohima which fall under the one lakh and above population of the ULBs - were ranked at 421 and 425 out of 485 town/cities from across the country. In the zonal ranking, out of the 201 towns/cities under the North-East Zone, Mokokchung town scored 57 with 1184 points out of 4000 and also adjudged as the cleanest city/town in Nagaland. Close on the heel is Tuli which is ranked 2nd cleanest in Nagaland and 79th in the North East Zone ranking with 1066 points. Changtongya comes 3rd and 104 in the North East Zone ranking followed by Chümoukedima, which is ranked 117 among cleanest NE towns/cities.
Kakching in Manipur emerged as the cleanest city from the North East Zone with 2458 points which was followed by Biate in Mizoram with 2217 points. Sikkim was ranked as the cleanest state from the North East and the 6th cleanest in the country. Manipur came second among North East states followed by Mizoram.
Indore, the commercial hub of Madhya Pradesh emerged as the cleanest city in the national level followed by Bhopal and Chandigarh while Jharkhand was adjudged the best-performing state in the survey followed by Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.
