Nagaland: ‘Families form an important part and parcel of Police Department’

Inspector General of Police (Intelligence), Kohima, K Martin Pienyü, IPS today said that police as an institution takes the family members of its employees as part of the department and therefore, welfare of the families form an important part and parcel of the Police Department.

Pienyü was speaking during the free medical camp organized by Family Welfare of the Intelligence unit under the Police Department, Kohima in New Reserve Colony at Police Union Baptist Church (PUBC), Multipurpose Hall, Kohima on July 15. The Family Welfare under the Intelligence Unit of the Police Department is headed by the wife of the IGP as President. 

Pienyü cited that the functions of the unit and families are correlated and added that without setting up the family properly, the functions of the police also gets affected. 

“If we do not empathise and realise the problem of the families, we also fail in our functioning,” the IGP said which calling to extend the act of humanness. 

While setting up a family welfare institution under the unit is important, he said that through the family welfare institution, they try to imbibe a sense of togetherness, unity and oneness. 

“It is also a place of get together and give a bond of belongingness to the unit,” Pienyü said. 

The IGP added that this camp in its own small measure, aims to offer treatment to family members for those working in the Police Intelligence branch and other general public free of cost. 

He therefore encouraged the family members who are the stakeholders of Family welfare to come and avail the benefits.

“This becomes a component of the unit and therefore, we should also encourage our families to come and participate in this kind of activities which in turn is our service to the unit,” Pienyü said. 

He further added that this kind of initiative may seem small but it have big impact on each and every member of the family extending beyond health check up, taking medicine and going back. It shows that having concern for one another is very important. 

He appealed that this kind of camps should not be just for name or as an annual event; however, it should be made qualitative and upgraded in future. “We hope we can bring more specialists or other line in the coming years.”
The IGP further thanked the UPHC staff for rendering their yeoman services. 

The programme was chaired by Addl. Superintendent of Police (Security), Y Alongla Sangtam, NPS and Introduction and acknowledgement was done by Deputy IGP (Int.), Soyimna Aier Koza, IPS. 

Medical staffs of Urban Primary Health Center (UPHC) Potterlane led by Medical Officer Dr Aomeren Longkumer, Dr Azhanuo Khezhie, nurses, lab technician and pharmacist along with Dentist, Dr Lanu rendered health services to colony members.
