Nagaland farmers receive certificate of recognition

Dimapur: Altogether 52 progressive farmers, representing 11 districts of Nagaland led by three ATMA officials Akam Zeliang, Dy. Project Director, Vicaho Chophi, Dy. Project Director and Dr. Khrienguno Mepfuo, Block Technology Manager attended Krishi Vasant 2014.

The mega event jointly organized by Ministry of Agriculture, Government of Maharashtra and CII was inaugurated by Pranab Mukherjee, President of India and was attended by lakhs of progressive farmers across the country.

During the event, total 51 achiever farmers from different states were awarded certificate of recognition for their contribution and achievement in the field of agriculture and allied sectors. Three farmers from Nagaland received the prestigious recognition. The farmers are G Kahuto Zhimomi of Ghotov Village from Dimapur for Muga silkworm rearing; Burremba Pongener of Aliba village from Mokokchung for off-season cultivation of cucumber; and Asangla Chang of Chendang village from Tuensang for vegetables. Kerangzuteile of Peren district, Sanyi Dukru of Phek district and Mezhuvituo of Kohima district received the best questionnaire during the farmer-scientist interactions.

The Krishi Vasant is the biggest gathering of farmers from the entire country, agro-industries, research organisations, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, state governments, financial institutions and other stakeholders at Nagpur, Maharashtra from February 9 to 13.

Simultaneously, live webcasting of the Krishi Vasant event was organized in all the districts by ATMA Nagaland supported by NIC/DIC and was viewed by over 2500 farmers of Nagaland.
