Zunheboto CMO sensitizes on anti-stigma and discrimination on COVID-19

Zunheboto, September 14 (MExN): A one day sensitisation meeting cum anti-stigma and discrimination on COVID-19 was held at Suruhoto block, Zunheboto on September 13. 

Dr K Akaho Sema, Dy CMO, Zunheboto speaking on the meeting stated mentioned about the three main factors causing the stigma associated with COVID-19, namely lack of adequate information, fear of the disease, rumours and misinformation.

“We all have a role to play in protecting the physical and mental health of ourselves and others during the COVID-19 outbreak,” he said adding that “the only weapon to fight this disease is by wearing mask, proper hand washing and social distancing.” He pointed out that stigma and discrimination is leading to people concealing symptoms, hesitancy in seeking medical care, not adhering to interventions like home quarantine, and ostracisation of healthcare workers and others involved in COVID-19 management. He therefore, urged the gathering to be appreciative and supportive. 

Briefing the meeting, Dr Nukshisangla Jamir, DPO (RCH &UIP) encourage the participants stating that “Suruhuto is one of the best health service delivery performing blocks in the district.” 

A press release from Shekho Sophie, District Media Officer CMO office, Zunheboto stated that the meeting was attended by Administration, GBs, STH, Church Leaders and area leaders. Vitoli, DPM, chaired the meeting, Toshevi, Pastor, STBC invoke God's blessings, vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Renchamo, MO I/c Suruhuto PHC, and benediction by Rev Hetoi Achumi, Pastor, Yehemi Baptist Church.
