A dozen families were rendered homeless in a fire that broke out at Kuda Village (’B’ Khel) behind Essar Petrol Pump on Thursday morning.

The fire believed to be caused by electrical short circuit emanated from a unit of three rows of thatched houses, the tenants comprising of autorickshaw drivers and daily wage earners.

However, except for a minor who was rushed for medical treatment, there was no loss of human lives.

The fire which broke out around 7:20 am soon engulfed and gutted entire rows of thatched houses even as neighbours and residents of the locality tried to douse the fire with water from buckets and salvage property and belongings from the inferno.

Timely intervention of the Fire & Emergency Services, which pressed into service three fire tenders and personnel, prevented the fire from spreading further to other residential houses and buildings. F&ES personnel questioned the victims and took assessment of the damage to property.
