
Kohima, February 2 (MExN): Former minister of Nagaland late Hokheto Zhimomi passed away at Zion Hospital, Dimapur on February 2.
The Chief Minister on Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio in a condolence message said, “It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I extend my deepest condolences to you and the family on the passing of Late Hokheto Zhimomi, former Member and Minister of the 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th House of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.”
“I am deeply saddened to learn that he succumbed to a cardiac arrest this evening at Zion Hospital,” the CM stated.
Rio also said that late Hokheto Zhimomi's dedication and service to the people of Nagaland have left an indelible mark on the political landscape of the region. His untiring efforts and unwavering commitment to public welfare will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
“In these difficult times, I understand that mere words cannot alleviate the pain and sorrow you are experiencing. However, our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you find strength and solace in the cherished memories of Late Hokheto Zhimomi, and May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he added.
The Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Speaker, Sharingain Longkumer said that Late Hokheto Sema joined active politics in 1974. Sema represented the Satakha Assembly Constituency. He served the people of the State as Minister holding various departments.
Late Hokheto Sema has infinitely upheld highest decorum on the floor of the Nagaland Assembly. In his public life he at all times adhered to the principle of honesty, probity, and simple living. He has contributed immensely for the development of the State of Nagaland. He has also demonstrated supreme concern for the welfare of the poor. In his death the state has lost a veteran leader and the void created will be difficult to fill.
“On behalf of the Members of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly and on my own behalf, I convey deepest condolences and pray that our Almighty God grant solace and comfort to bear the loss. May the departed soul Rest in Peace,” Longkumer stated.
Dy CM Y Patton recalled the former Congressman as a fine sportsperson and a dynamic leader during the days of his youth. As a politician, he was a straightforward and humble leader, who worked for the upliftment of his people. His demise is a great loss for the people of Nagaland, he added. “On behalf of the state BJP legislators, the Dy CM conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family and pray for the departed to rest in peace,” the Media Cell of Dy CMO stated.
Former minister K Therie said that Late Hokheto Sumi was an honest man who dedicated himself in selfless pursuit of the welfare of the people. He was a tall leader whose word was reliable. He never backtracked or changed his word. His selfless service to the people was evident in the people reposing their faith in him to represent them in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly for 4 terms.
Late Hokheto Sumi also contributed immensely to the Congress party and served as its president from 2004-2008. His contributions and sacrifices for the party will be long remembered and cherished.
“My wife and family join me in conveying our deepest sympathies to his bereaved wife, children and family members. May the Almighty God comfort you all through this most difficult time of parting,” Therie stated.
Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) in its condolence message said, a seasoned politician and a dynamic leader, Late Hokheto Jimomi sacrificed the prime years of his life to an exemplary career in public service. “We offer our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray for the eternal rest of the departed soul,” Communications Department of NPCC stated.
