Nagaland forms committee for hit and run motor accidents scheme

Kohima, October 13 (MExN): The Nagaland Government has constituted District Level Committee in each District to undertake all functions connected with the implementation of the compensation to victims of Hit-and-Run Motor Accidents Scheme, 2022.

The committee members, constituted in pursuance to the Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways Notification dated February 25, will undertake all functions connected with the implementation of the scheme.

As per the State’s DIPR, the committee will be comprised of a Chairperson, a Member Secretary and 5 other members and meet at least once in each quarter with a minimum quorum of three members.

The specific designations are Claims Settlement Commissioner (Deputy Commissioner) as Chairperson; and members including Claims Enquiry Officer (Sub-Divisional Officer); Superintendent of Police/Deputy Superintendent of Police; Chief Medical Officer of the District; Regional Transport Officer/ District Transport Officer; and any member of the public or a voluntary organization connected with road safety aspects as nominated by the Chairperson.

The term of reference for the committee include progress of implementation of the scheme in the concerned District and take corrective steps.

It is also tasked to submit a report on quarterly basis to the Standing Committee, including in electronic form, which among others, contains month-wise statistics about the claim applications received, awarded, pending and reasons for pendency;

The Committee is also entrusted to keep close liaison with other authorities in the district so as to ensure that the scheme gets adequate publicity; provide guidance or clarification to concerned authorities and claimants, wherever called for; and raise awareness about the rights available to claimants and the provisions of compensation under the scheme.
