Nagaland Garo Tribal Council condemns ‘hit-and-run’ incident

DIMAPUR, August 14 (MExN): The Nagaland Garo Tribal Council (NGTC) today condemned the “heinous act of hit-and-run incident” that occurred in 3rd Mile on August 9.

A 24-year-old Leya Engtipi Sangma of Eralibill village was killed in the incident and her brother was severely injured due to the reckless dumper truck driver, the NGTC stated in a press release.

Expressing shock and sadness over the incident, the Council appealed the concerned authorities to give the “culprit severest punishment for his inhumane behaviour as per the law.”

“The culprit instead of having any remorse for his misdeeds fled from the scene without giving any help, according to the eye witness,” the NGTC alleged, and said it demonstrated his ‘arrogance and barbaric attitude.’

In this regard, the Council expressed gratitude and appreciation to one Vika Yeptho of Eralibill village for “quick presence of mind and bravery in chasing and nabbing the culprit.”

“Without his heroic deeds the truth would have never come to light, may God bless you abundantly,” it added.

The Council also extended its condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that the living God give them heavenly strength to bear this loss.
