KOHIMA/NEW DELHI, JULY 29 (MExN): The Government of India, marking the fifth anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, dedicated 10 PM-SHRI (Prime Minister Schools for Rising India) Schools in Nagaland and laid foundation stones for 23 tribal hostels under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA) on July 28.
The announcement was made during the Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan dedicated the schools and laid the hostel foundation stones virtually in a ceremony streamed live across the country, including Nagaland.
According to an official update, the 10 PM-SHRI schools—one from each district—were selected from among 49 government schools in Nagaland. The selected institutions are: PM SHRI GHSS Chümoukedima, PM SHRI GHSS Kiphire, PM SHRI GHS Kiruphema, PM SHRI Mayangnokcha GHSS, PM SHRI GMS Mon Town A, PM SHRI GHS DC Colony Peren Town, PM SHRI GHS Phusachodu, PM SHRI GHSS Thangjam, PM SHRI GHS Wokha Village and PM SHRI GHS Nyengching.
These schools, among 14,500 institutions selected nationwide under the PM-SHRI initiative, will serve as model schools in line with NEP 2020. The initiative emphasizes access, equity, quality, and inclusion, with enhanced infrastructure and updated curricula.
The DAJGUA programme, launched on October 2, 2024, as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, aims at holistic development of tribal communities through integrated delivery of services in education, infrastructure, health, and livelihoods.
As part of this, 1,000 hostels will be constructed nationwide under the Samagra Shiksha framework. In Nagaland, foundation stones were laid virtually for 23 hostels by Union Minister Pradhan.
A state-level event was held at TM Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima, where Advisor for School Education and SCERT, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Commissioner and Secretary Kevileno Angami, and officials from the Department of School Education, Samagra Shiksha, SCERT, and NBSE were present.
