Dimapur, July 8 (MExN): In a landmark step for cardiac healthcare in the region, the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) has officially inaugurated Nagaland’s first-ever Cardiac Rehabilitation Center.
The state-of-the-art facility marks a significant milestone in the state’s journey towards comprehensive, patient-centered cardiac care, stated a press release received here.
The inaugural ceremony, held at the CIHSR Cardiac Care Center, began with an invocation and dedication prayer led by Petekhrienuo, Chaplain at CIHSR. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was performed by Dr Leishwon Kumrah, Dean of Medical Sciences, signifying the formal launch of this pioneering initiative.

Addressing the gathering, CIHSR Director Dr Sedevi Angami lauded the efforts of the Cardiology Department and shared insights into the institution’s journey toward advanced cardiac care. He noted that the introduction of facilities like the Cardiology OPD, Cardiac Diagnostics, Cath Lab, and ICCU had created a strong foundation—now expanded to include post-acute cardiac rehabilitation. “This center is the logical step in our vision of a complete Cardiac Hub-housing the OPD, diagnostics and rehabilitation,” Dr Angami stated.
Dr Avitso Liegise, Head of the Department of Cardiology, highlighted the growing burden of cardiovascular disease in Nagaland, referencing research supported by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). He emphasized the urgent need for integrated, long-term cardiac care.
“This center will play a vital role in helping patients regain function, understand their condition, receive counselling, undergo supervised exercise, and adopt heart-healthy lifestyles,” said Dr Liegise. “It completes the continuum of care we offer, from emergency intervention to full recovery.”
The inauguration concluded with a closing hymn and a collective prayer of dedication, marking the beginning of a new era in cardiac recovery services in the region.
