All India MP Verma Unity Cricket Cup 2017
DIMAPUR, APRIL 15 (MExN): Nagaland went down fighting against Jharkhand in a pulsating finale to the 6th All India MP Verma Unity Cricket Cup 2017 (40-overs) at Patna on April 12. Nagaland gave a tough fight, defending a score of 198, to a solid Jharkhand batting line-up eventually losing by 6 wickets in the day-night game.
Nagaland captain Imliwati Lemtur won the toss and elected to bat, the team amassing a formidable 198 in the allotted 40-overs. The experienced Jharkhand team played cautiously reaching the win target in the 38th over with 6 wickets to spare.
Nagaland’s Tahmeed Rahman was declared the highest wicket taker of the tournament for a total haul of 11, which included a 5-wicket haul in a match.
As per a press release, it was the first time a team from Nagaland had reached the final of an All-India cricket tournament. In the way to the final, team Nagaland played against Mizoram, Bihar and Manipur.
The tournament was organized by the Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB). Twelve teams participated in the tournament held from April 4 to 12 in two different venues in Patna.
The release added that former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar and former ODI keeper Surinder Khanna, who witnessed the match, were impressed by the performance of the Nagaland team against a clearly superior and experienced opponent.
