Nagaland Goverment forms inquiry commission to probe Feb 6 killing

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 9 (MExN): The Nagaland State Government has decided to constitute an Inquiry Commission to probe into the killing of the husband-wife couple between Shamator and Kiphire, and its consequent aftermath of mob violence in Kiphire. A notification from the Nagaland State Home Commissioner, issued through the DIPR, informed that the commission will be headed by a DIG Police. The State Government has decided to provide appointment and ex gratia of Rs 1 Lakh for the next of kin of the deceased.

YTC serves ultimatum to Nagaland government

The Yimchungru Tribal Council (YTC) today demanded the immediate investigation and arrest of the people responsible for the February 6 murder of a couple in Shamator and the “mob leaders” responsible for the “needless destruction of properties, physical assault and perpetuating acts of terrorism...at Kiphire town...” In an ultimatum to the Nagaland State Commissioner, the YTC President demanded that the arrests be made within 7 days of submission of the memorandum. “The impatience of the humiliated Yimchungru public as an outcome of delay of act and justice by the State Government should not be held responsible by the aggrieved and innocent Yimchungru public,” it cautioned.

Barbaric acts should not polarize communities: NTC

The Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) while condemning the February 6 killing and the aftermath incidents of mob violence in Kiphere Town said: “Killings and barbaric actions of the miscreants should not polarize the communities but pin-point the perpetrators and bring them to ends of justice.” A press note from the NTC urged the State Government to arrest the culprits at all cost and to transparently deliver justice to remove misgivings and communal elements from the episode. It further urged all affected parties for tolerance, good will and acceptance to allow restoration of peace and harmony.
