Nagaland Government issues road safety advisory

Dimapur, July 22 (MExN): With heavy monsoon season, the Nagaland Government called for serious precautionary actions by all commuting vehicles in view of frequent occurrence of landslide, depressions or rock falls in vulnerable locations.

 Further, the unfinished road construction works due to the unforeseen COV1D-19 pandemic lockdown has rendered the road conditions additional risks of rock falls, slides and unfavourable road surface conditions.

Accordingly, while the road authorities concerned would endeavour to attend to the dire necessities for ensuring undisrupted road communication, the goverment, as per a DIPR report, has requested the commuting public and vehicles to adhere to following safety measures:

•    Avoid night travels

•    Ensure reliable mechanical condition of the vehicle before journey including proper lights, fog light etc.

•    Avoid halting, parking on slide or sinking prone locations.

•    Adhere to traffic norms of one-way traffic on narrow stretches; give way to emergency vehicles viz Ambulance, Army, Security and essential services.

•    Avoid overloading vehicles considering the vulnerable road conditions vehicular load capacity be restricted 3-axels 10 wheelers with load capacity of 24 tones till improvement of weather. This is essential to avoid road blockages or avoidable accidents by overloaded mode of transports which is a regular problems encountered during raining season.
