Nagaland Chief Secretary, Temjen Toy today stated that the Nagaland Government wants to make movement of stranded people as seamless as possible.
Speaking to the media today, the Chief Secretary said that for the past two weeks, the government has been working on returning citizens of the State and facilitating those who are stranded in Nagaland and want to go to their own respective states.
Though the exact number on how many people who would like to return is yet to be ascertained, he informed that there are about 21,000 people who are outside the state and it has information on 16,000 through the government’s online dashboard.
“We don’t want to have total chaos. We want to make it as seamless as possible and with least inconvenience as possible” said Toy. He informed that an “empowered committee”is already in place, functioning and doing all the homework.
“The latest guidelines have come on quarantine of such people, and we are minutely examining those guidelines and once that is ready we will be asking for people who want to come back home” he informed. The logistics arrangements will be made together with the Government of India.
He further stated that the government has no issue with those wanting to leave the State, provided the arrangements are made and the receiving states are ready to receive them.
With regard to migrant daily wage labourers in Nagaland, Toy informed that most of them are here on a semi-permanent basis and the government is in touch with them.
On relaxations of guidelines
Meanwhile, conceding that the nationwide lockdown has controlled the spread of the virus, despite the spikes here and there, Toy informed that fresh guidelines are expected from the Government of India
“So far, in Nagaland, we have to take calculated and calibrated steps on relaxation. The virus is here to stay with us and we have to be cautious” viewed Toy.
He informed that the government is in the process of working out more relaxation, and will be issuing its own state specific guidelines (in line with the centre's guidelines), probably around May 4-5.
