Nagaland Governor and H&FW Minister extend Phom Day greetings

Dimapur, June 5 (MExN): To commemorate the occasion of Phom Day, which falls annually on June 6, Prof Jagdish Mukhi, Governor of Nagaland and Assam, extended greetings to the people of Nagaland, especially to the Phom community. He stated that this important landmark in Phom history reminds the commitment of the people to shun violence.

Moreover the declaration of June 6 as Phom day (Peace day) marks the importance that the land is flourishing based on the spirit of universal brotherhood, he said. The Governor also highlighted how peace, forgiveness and unity are the essence of this significant day. As such he encouraged the youths to continue honouring the commitment of non-violence made by the pioneering leaders.

In a separate statement, S Phangnyu Phom, Minister, Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) stated that the day was marked on June 6, 1952 by the forefathers to take the pledge and decision to stop the culture of headhunting, shun violence and proclaim peaceful existence and calm environment for the younger generations.  

He therefore urged upon the Phom community to share this blessing to all fellow Nagas and excel in unity for more glories and brighter future of all.
