KOHIMA, OCTOBER 9 (MExN): Nagaland State Governor, PB Acharya today issued a statement clarifying on why there were no cash awards for the district level quiz competition which was held in commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
A statement from the Governor’s Secretariat said that as per the instructions of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Governor’s Secretariat had communicated to the Department of Higher Education and Nagaland University to conduct a quiz competition on “Life and Works of Mahatma Gandhi”. It was initially decided to award the winners with cash prizes on October 2 at Raj Bhavan, Kohima during the seminar on thoughts and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi.
However, during a meeting chaired by the Nagaland Governor on September 15 at Raj Bhavan with government officers from the Department of Higher Education, members of the Nagaland College Principals Association and Nagaland University representatives, “after thorough deliberation and discussions, it was decided to honour the first, second and third place winners of the competition in kind and certificates and not with cash prizes.”
“It was also decided that Raj Bhavan will bear the travel allowances, including food and lodging for the winners coming from other districts except for Kohima and Dimapur,” the Governor added.
Subsequently, the Governor had instructed the Department of Higher Education to conduct Quiz Competitions related to Mahatma Gandhi in all the districts of Nagaland, wherein winners of the competition would be felicitated on October 2 at Raj Bhavan.
