Nagaland Governor, CM extend help to Kerala

Kohima, August 18 (MExN): The DIPR has reported that on behalf of the Government of Nagaland, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has announced Rs. 1 crore flood relief for Kerala which has been reeling under unprecedented rainfall claiming 357 lives so far. Kerala has been worst-hit by the floods this year with at least 310,000 people displaced who are taking shelter in more than 2,000 relief camps.  

Rio has appealed to the people of Nagaland, NGOs, civil societies, churches etc. to extend assistance by contributing towards the relief fund and also pray for the people of Kerala who are undergoing one of the worst natural calamities to have hit the state in a century.  

The rains have not only brought floods but also triggered landslides in the state, bringing Kerala to an abrupt halt. All means of transportation have been affected by the torrential rains and people are experiencing extreme hardship besides many losing their lives.  

Governor donates

Meanwhile, the Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya, has donated Rs 2 lakh towards the Kerala Chief Minister’s relief fund in aid of the people affected due to unprecedented flood and subsequent havoc caused by turgid rivers and rushing waters in Kerala since the beginning of August.  

A press release from the PRO stated that the Governor has also appealed to the people of Nagaland to support the people of Kerala.
