The Oriental College, Kohima today conducted its 1st Graduation Day 2024 with Nagaland’s Governor La Ganesan as the chief guest. Gracing the occasion, Ganesan handed over degree certificates to 91 graduated students of 2021-2024 batch.
Menuotuolie James Yhome has been conferred with the best graduate award. Neishekhonuo Thami also received Neivilhoulie Kelio Award of Academic Excellence for Tenyidie subject topper under Nagaland University.
Since its establishment in 1996 under the auspices of the Christian Revival Church, Kohima village, Oriental College has been a centre of academic excellence and cultural enrichment.
Extending congratulation to the graduates, Ganesan said “Your hard work, perseverance and determination have brought you to this milestone.”
He said that Oriental College stands out not only for its academic rigor but also for its emphasis on instilling discipline, moral, and ethical values.
“The college promotes the diffusion of knowledge and seeks the personal advancement of its students, regardless of caste, creed, community, or social status,” Ganesan said adding that this inclusive vision of holistic education aims “to mould you into responsible citizens who will contribute positively to society.”
Asking the graduated students to remember that their education is a tool not just for personal success but for the betterment of society, he said “Your integrity, honesty, and empathy will define you in your personal and professional endeavors.”
In a world that often faces ethical dilemmas and challenges, it is essential to hold onto your values, he said adding “Integrity and honesty are not just moral imperatives but the cornerstones of trust and respect in any relationship or organization.”

‘Make positive contributions to the community’
Governor said that hard work and perseverance are critical, but they (graduated students) should always be accompanied by a sense of empathy towards “your fellow citizens and a spirit of patriotism towards your country.” Maintaining that their actions have the power to impact others, he asked the graduated students to strive to make positive contributions to the community and the nation.
“Your sense of duty towards your country will be reflected in your actions, whether big or small,” he said. Continue to strive for excellence, uphold your moral and ethical principles, and work toward the common good, he added.
Earlier, Oriental College Principal, Dr Khrieriezhünuo Dzüvichü delivered welcome address while Kevikhrunyü Kiso spoke on behalf of the graduating students. Hopong and Senti and Dzüzienuo presented special numbers. Vizotuonyü Suokhrie, Asst Pastor, CRC Kohima village invoked God’s blessings. The programme was led by Oriental College vice principal (Adm) Chibeni Murry while vote of thanks was proposed by Chubanenla Imchen, Dean, Students’ Welfare.
