
DIMAPUR, MARCH 8 (MExN): With an objective to end VIP culture, Nagaland Government in an order on Thursday directed that no government official or dignitary shall use designation plates on their vehicles.
Home Commissioner Abhishek Singh in the order quoted the provision of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Act 1989 which states that nothing except registration number should be displayed on the number plates of the vehicles.
Accordingly all government official functionaries have been strictly directed not to display their designation on their vehicles. It cautioned that violators of this rule would face action under Section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988. Further, in order to avoid inconvenience to Ministers and MLAs, the Home Commissioner stated that appropriate color coded car stickers would be provided to facilitate their movement across the State.
As per the general provisions of the Section 177 of the MVA 1998, first time offenders would be imposed a penalty of Rs 100 and Rs 300 for subsequent offences.
