Nagaland govt giving ample focus to area of sports: DS&YRs official

District Sports Officer (DSO) for Kohima and Tseminyu districts, Department of Sports and Youth Resources (DS&YRs), Government of Nagaland, Zhopovi Zecho has said that the state government is giving ample focus to the area of sports by bolstering sporting infrastructure and sportspersons are receiving many opportunities through training, coaching, and career among others. 

Gracing the Kezoma Village Students’ Union 55th Sports Meet today at Kezoma, Kohima, he spoke about a host of opportunities that the government is undertaking for sports enthusiast and people excelling in various fields of sport. 

Among a host of opportunity that state government of the day is making efforts, Zecho said today one can built a career through sports if some is serious in the discipline.

Among the wide scope of employment both in the government and private sector, the speaker said that the there is 3% job reservation in the government sector for people excelling in sports. 

He also mentioned that on sporting infrastructure development for sports, he said under the Khelo India mission, many different sports academy are also being provided to all the districts across the state in order to train the Naga youths in games and sports. 

The sports officer therefore, encouraged interested students in villages, particularly Kezoma Village to grab opportunities that are given by government. 

He further informed that the department of Youth Resources and sports will be conducting selection trials for induction into state sports hostel for sessions 2024, preferably under 14 years at Indira Gandhi Stadium on disciplines including Sepaktakraw for girls, Athlete for girls and football for boys which will be held from January 18-20.  In this regard, Zecho asked people to come to the spot on the day and participate or further enquire with the district sports office Kohima. 

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Rokovito Kisotso, Games and sports secretary and Kevipodi Tase, Assistant games and sports secretary administered oath taking. 

Various Games and Sports discipline played during the daylong event were football for men, Penalty shootout for women, volleyball for both men and women, standing broad jump in open category, tug of war and other games.
