Nagaland govt removes all COVID-19 curbs

Kohima, March 31 (MExN): The Nagaland Government, on March 31, decided to end all COVID-19 containment measures in the state from March 31, following low positive rate over a month as well as an advisory issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

In view of the above, and after taking into account all other relevant aspects concerning the COVID-19 situation, the State Government has decided that there will not be any further extension of the order imposing restrictions and measures for containment of COVID-19 in the State under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, beyond March 31, informed a circular issued by State Chief Secretary, J Alam.

Further, any existing capacity restriction for any activity in the State imposed through the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued for preventing the spread of COVID-19 has been removed, it said.

The COVID-19 SOP for travelers or tourists entering Nagaland will also stand withdrawn from April 1, it added.

However, as a measure of abundant caution, all are strongly advised to continue adhering to the COVID-19 appropriate behaviours, the circular stated. Among others, these include wearing of facemasks in public places, regular washing of hands by soap and water or sanitizer, maintaining physical distancing, it added.

Further, everyone above 12 years of age is also advised to get fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and if precautionary dose is due, to take at the earliest moment, it added.

The Health and Family Welfare Department will continue on five-fold strategy of Test-Tract-Treat-Vaccination and adherence to COVID-19 appropriate behaviours, the circular informed.

The Department will also closely monitor the situation and shall take prompt action at local level, whenever any upsurge of cases is noticed in any part of the state, it added.

As per the circular, the weekly sample positivity rate of COVID-19 infections has consistently remained below 2% for the past one month in Nagaland, while average number of daily new hospital admissions has also remained below 5 for the last 3 weeks.

The number of active cases has declined steeply and remained only at 15 as on March 31, it said.

After taking into consideration the overall improvement in the COVID-19 situation across the country, the Secretary, MHA has informed that the Government of India will not be issuing any further orders under DM Act, 2005 and advised the States to consider the same for COVID containment measures, it added.
