‘Still paid under CSS, not state budget,’ says NGTA
Kohima, February 23 (MExN): The Nagaland Government Teachers’ Association (NGTA), erstwhile SSA and RMSA 2010 & 2013 Batches, has announced a two-day pen-down strike on February 24 and 25.
The Association, comprising 2293 members, was formally mainstreamed into the State Education Cadre vide an order dated September 2, 2022 (w.e.f. April 21, 2022), following Cabinet approval conveyed on April 21, 2022.
However, in a statement issued by the NGTA Media Cell, the teachers have alleged that even after more than three years, their salaries continue to be drawn under Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) funding rather than the appropriate State Account Head, which is applicable on a par with other regular State Cadre employees.
The teachers stated that despite being mainstreamed, they are yet to receive salary parity with their counterparts in the regular state cadre.
According to the Association, several representations and appeals have been made over the years for the inclusion of their salary component into the State Non-Plan Budget, on a par with other regular employees under the School Education Department.
Claiming to have received no concrete response, the Association served a final seven-day ultimatum on February 16, 2026, addressed to the Principal Director of School Education (DoSE), demanding to address their legitimate demand within the stipulated time. “Nothing had changed,” the Association stated, adding that the department has shown a “lackadaisical nature” in addressing the issue.
This, they asserted, compelled them to serve notice for a two-day pen-down strike from February 24 to 25, 2026.
NGTA cautioned that in the event of the department’s failure to address the issue within these two days, they will be left with no option but to stage a “peaceful and democratic form of agitation” from February 26, 2026, until their demand is met.
