Over Rs 15 cr sanctioned for Storm Water & Waste Water Drainage System in Dimapur town

DIMAPUR, JUNE 13 (MExN): Lok Jan Shakti Party (LJP) ex-candidate from 2 Dimapur-II AC, Y Vikheho Awomi has urged upon the state government to look into the issue of flood situation in Dimapur “seriously and initiate necessary corrective measures in order to control flood in Dimapur, as it may cause irreparable damages in the near future.”

Raising concern, Vikheho in a press release informed the general public that the Government of India through the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation of Urban Transformation (AMRUT), a central sponsored scheme, has sanctioned various projects for construction of Storm Water & Waste Water Drainage System in Dimapur town, which is being implemented by the Department of Urban Development, Government of Nagaland.

As per the “sanction order,” the project has been identified in nine localities for construction of storm water and waste water drainage system namely Dhobi Nallah (1075.0M Length), Burma Camp (Old Golaghat Road, 486.0M Length), behind DC’s residence (224.0M Length), from Duncan to Dhobi Nullah road (486.0M Length), IHSDP Burma Camp (153.0M Length), Supermarket (368.0M Length), Rio Colony (184M Length), Signal Angami (438.0M Length) and Lingrijan (368.0M Length) amounting to Rs 15,50,08100.

In this connection, Vikheho urged upon the civil society organisation to be vigilant and coordinate with the concerned department and ensure that the construction of Storm Water & Waste Water Drainage system project is executed as per the Detail Project Report (DPR). He opined that the project will greatly help in the flow of storm water and waste water especially during monsoon season and help mitigate the flood problems in Dimapur.

Further, he called for urgent preventive measures by all stakeholders to tackle the problem of flood situation in Dimapur which greatly affect many families, business and destroy properties worth crore of rupees every year.

Vikheho said public need to be sensitised towards waste management as it is one of the major factor contributing to floods during the rainy season. He pointed out that during his visit of the flood affected localities; he came across clogged drains filled with garbage, waste and household litters, which has resulted in water clogging in many localities.

Pointing out that the flood situation in Dimapur is largely a manmade hazard rather than a natural disaster, he called for community participation with the municipality and all stakeholders in order to help create public awareness.
