Nagaland govt urges 5 Tribes CoRRP to call off July 9 protest

KOHIMA, JULY 8 (MExN): The Nagaland government has urged the Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP), comprising five tribal groups, to reconsider its proposed sit-in protest scheduled for July 9 at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat. In a statement issued by the Office of the Chief Secretary, the government said the matter had already been taken up during a meeting held on June 3, chaired by the Deputy Chief Minister (Home), and attended by representatives of the 5 Tribes CoRRP and apex bodies of the concerned tribes. During the meeting, the government had informed the participants that the issue would be placed before the State Cabinet for further consideration.

Subsequently, the Cabinet, on June 12, decided in principle to constitute a Commission to examine all aspects of the state’s reservation policy in government employment. The Personnel and Administrative Reforms (P&AR) Department has been directed to initiate necessary follow-up action. “In light of this ongoing process, the government appeals to the 5 Tribes CoRRP to refrain from the planned agitation,” the statement said. The government reiterated its commitment to addressing the concerns raised through proper institutional mechanisms.
