‘When the annual turnover of a business exceeds Rs 10 lakh they must mandatorily register under GST’

Kohima, October 25 (MExN): As Nagaland gears up for the Hornbill Festival 2023, a GST workshop was organised for travel agents, tour operators, and hotel, homestay and restaurant owners at the Directorate of Tourism office, Kohima on October 25.

The purpose of the workshop was to educate businesses and professionals in the Tourism Industry about GST and how it applies to their business, a press release received here stated. The event was organised by the Central GST Commissionerate Dimapur in collaboration with the Directorate of Tourism, Government of Nagaland, Start Up Nagaland under Department of Industries and Commerce and R Abraham and Associates.

It stated that even as the tourism industry has steadily been growing in Nagaland, travel agents, tour operators, hotels, homestay and restaurants have an important role to play in collecting GST from their customers. When the annual turnover of a business exceeds Rs 10 lakh they must mandatorily register under GST and begin to charge GST at the applicable tax rate to their customers which are then to be paid to the government every month along with filing of GST Returns.

Additional Commissioner CGST, Sashiwapang IRS and Chartered Accountant Rohan Abraham were the resource persons for the workshop. This was followed by an interactive Q&A session where participants raised various queries related to the tax compliance requirements of businesses.

This is the third part in a series of outreach sessions conducted by the Central GST Commissionerate, Dimapur and CA Rohan Abraham.
