Nagaland state has not utilized the funds released for the Rajiv Gandhi National Creche Scheme implemented under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India since its inception in 2016.
This was contained in the reply given by Union Minister for Ministry of Women and Child Development, Smriti Zubin Irani to an unstarred question raised by Md. Nadimul Haque MP on the National Creche Scheme at the Rajya Sabha recently.
According to the information provided on the details of funds allocated, release and utilized during the last three years, the Ministry of Women and Child Development said it released an amount of Rs 36.56 crore for 2016-2017 and Rs 39.02 crore for 2017-18 for Nagaland which however was not utilized. Reason for non-utilisaiton of the fund was not mentioned in the reply. It also stated that Nagaland state has 144 functional crèches as on June 30, 2019.
Rajiv Gandhi National Creche Scheme for the children of working mothers is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme to provide day care facilities to children (age group of 6 months to 6 years) of working mothers. As on June 30, 2019, 7930 crèches are functional across the country.
The Scheme provides an integrated package of the following services which include daycare facilities including sleeping facilities, early stimulation for children below 3 years and pre-school education for 3 to 6 years old children, supplementary nutrition (to be locally sourced), growth monitoring and health check-up and immunization.
