Nagaland remains most ‘unhealthy’ among the smaller states in India while Mizoram is ‘healthiest,’ reflected a report released by NITI Aayog on June 25 titled "Healthy States, Progressive India.”
Nagaland came last among the smaller states with a total score of 38.51, though there were some incremental improvements in some health indicators. It registered some improvement in indicators such as rate of low weight in newborns, immunization coverage, rate of institutional deliveries and success rate of new microbiologically confirmed tuberculosis cases.
Kerala was ranked first among big states while Uttar Pradesh was at the bottom. The report was based on a comparative study of health parameters in each state and union territory between 2015-16 and 2017-18.
