Nagaland Health Project: strengthening community involvement in health care

Orientation programme held for Vertical Program Officers under CMO Dimapur
Dimapur, November 11 (MExN): The Dimapur district health review meeting cum a one-day orientation programme for Health Units i/c, Vertical Program Officers under CMO Dimapur on Nagaland Health Project was held at Dimapur District Hospital Chapel Hall.
A press release received here stated that Achum, Consultant NHP presented an overview of Nagaland Health Project (NHP). He stated that NHP main objectives are to improve the health services, increase the utilization by communitization, invest in water and sanitation, solar power, supply chain management and capacity building. NHP also aims to strengthen community involvement in improving the health care and nutrition, and its outcome.
Abino, District Facilitator presented an overview of NHP activities that has been carried out in the District. She informed that so far 59 landscaping project has been completed in various health units and VHCs and 57 Training sessions have been conducted in the district. She highlighted the block-wise achievements and also the challenges faced during the implementation of the project.
Sophy, Consultant, NHP highlighted the Supply Chain Management & Information Communication Technology (ICT), emphasizing on the benefits of effective Logistics System and envisioned ICT Initiative.
Dr. Vizolie, Director, Health Services & Project Director- NHP emphasised that Nagaland Health Project (NHP) was a complimenting and supplementing program to the already existing health service delivery in the State and not a duplicate program and the Health Department must work in a concerted effort to provide quality health services and achieve targets. He also shared various innovative ways to tackle shortage of Medical Officers especially in the remote rural areas taken up by the Department. He lamented that “absenteeism is the major issue in the implementation of any programme.” He urged the medical fraternity to live up to the expectation of the people by providing regular and quality health services. Dr. Vizolie also inspected the civil works at District Hospital Dimapur and School of Nursing.
Dr. Rebecca Y. Sema, DPO (UIP/RCH) informed the members on the upcoming National Newborn week (November 15 to 21). She also informed the members that Dimapur District has been adjudged the Best Performance District for AFP & Measles Surveillance Activities in the State and therefore expressed her appreciation and congratulated all the health workers for their efforts.
The programme was chaired by Dr Antoly Suu, DY CMO and she also relayed various information related to the Department. Dr T Pangjung Sangtam, CMO Dimapur delivered the welcome address earlier in the programme. The programme was attended by Medical Officers from all the CHCs and PHCs, Vertical Program Officers and staff under CMO establishment.
