Chomoükedima, December 9 (MExN): The 1st North East Gorkha Cultural Festival organised by the Hamro Chinhari North East India, Nagaland was held at Singrijan, Chomoükedima on December 9.
The occasion was graced by the Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan as the chief guest, a DIPR report stated. Addressing the gathering, the Governor said he was reminded of the rich heritage of the Gorkha community which adds more colour and diversity into the vibrant cultural landscape of North East India. ‘Gorkhas have called Nagaland their home for more than 200 years and has contributed tirelessly to the Nation as well as to the State,’ he remarked.

He also said that Gorkhas have been part of the Indian army and contributed significantly to the defence of the Nation. The Gorkhas knowledge about cattle farming and other agricultural practices especially in the hilly areas have contributed in the economy of the State, he said.
The Governor thanked the Gorkhas for actively involving in the local businesses and services and thereby contributing to the economic development of the State.

“The 1st North East Gorkha Cultural Festival is not just a celebration but is a statement of unity, strength and a testament to the toughness and the unyielding spirit of the Gorkha people who are struggling to preserve the unique culture, language, and traditions in changing times,” he asserted. “Such festivals strengthen the cultural identity of all and foster a sense of pride and belonging,” he added.

Further, the Governor urged the gathering to respect each and to co-exist harmoniously and to promote and protect the heritage of the Gorkhas and to stay rooted in the traditions.
