The India team selection trial for the upcoming World Tug of War Championship, scheduled to be held in Nottingham, England, was officially commenced at 13th Assam Rifles Ground in Kohima, Nagaland on June 11.
Gracing the inaugural event, MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo (Ato) Rhütso formally declared the trials open. Welcoming the participants from across the country to this selection trial, Dr Ato was hopeful that this will open ways and means for the prayers to progress further. He was also optimistic that it will also promote friendship among the players and the different states.
Col Tarun Rana, Commanding Officer, 13 Assam Rifles, Kohima, stressed the importance of discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship, underscoring the strong values shared between the armed forces and the sport of tug of war.
Hari Shankar, President, Tug of War Federation of India (TWFI), also addressed the gathering and highlighted the growing global recognition of the tug of war event and India’s rising stature on the international tug of war scene.
Earlier, Hurui Zeliang, Vice President, Nagaland Tug of War Association (NTWA) chaired the programme while welcome address was delivered by Dr. Er. Vekho Swuro, Convenor, NTWA. Later, Madan Mohen, Secretary General of TWFI, commended the NTWA for their excellent coordination and hospitality.
The final selection list for Team India will be announced on June 12.
