Nagaland to implement LaQshya

First phase to be launched in Kiphire, Mon, Longleng and Tuensang

Kohima, April 18 (MExN): A two day state level orientation workshop on Labour Room Quality Improvement Initiative (LaQshya), the National Labour Room Quality Improvement Initiative and Maternal and Child Death Surveillance and response, PMSMA and GDM started from April 18 at the Conference Hall, Directorate of H&FW, Kohima.  

LaQshya aims to adopt a holistic and comprehensive approach at all levels of care to improve and strengthen Quality of Care (QoC) during intra partum and immediate post partum periods and especially the satisfaction of the beneficiary. In Nagaland, the implementation will be done in a phase wise manner, where during the 1st phase it will be launched in the District Hospital of Kiphire, Mon, Longleng and Tuensang followed by the rest of the Districts.  

Addressing the resource persons, officers and participants, R. Ramakrishnan IAS, DoH & FW, Government of Nagaland stated that the State’s Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) is better compared to the National level’s data. However, he appealed that “as service provider we should strive towards achieving 0% IMR and MMR.” Ramakrishnan added that “LaQshya being focused on the quality of labour room, we should work on the improvement of Institution Delivery in the State.”  

He also highlighted on the two important upcoming events in the State i.e. Mission Indradhanush focusing on Full Immunisation and Ayushman Divas which falls on April 30, which is for Health Insurance of Family living below poverty line. He requested the medical practitioners to work hard for the successful implementation of these programmes.  

Dr. Kevichusa Medikhrü, Mission Director, NHM, Nagaland also expressed his concern over the incidents of MMR and IMR in the Labour Room and the programme being focused on the strengthening of labour room, he requested the participants to take the workshop seriously as it is pertaining to the life of Mother and Child and also clear all doubts in the two days.  

The resource persons for the two day workshop are, Dr. Amit Yadav, Senior Technical Officer, MoH & FW, Dr. Amrita John, Consultant, MoH & FW, Narender Jangra, Regional RMNCH+A Coordinator (NE), Dr. Supongmeren, OBG Mon DH and RMNCH+A Unit, Nagaland.
