Nagaland: ‘Imunopi Sujo Sujo’ a message for nurturing brotherly bonds, harmonious living

Niuland, February 4 (MExN): The cultural troupe of Aghunaqa area presented a cultural item titled ‘Imunopi Sujo Sujo’ during the ‘Experiencing God Together through Culture’ programme held as part of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council 23rd Triennial and 87th Annual Gathering 2024 on February 4. 

Imunopi Sujo Sujo — is a particular pastime, unique to the Suruhuto region of Zunheboto district, and has now gained a wider adoption in contemporary Sumi culture.

According to oral traditions, this recreational activity was utilised by elders to impart important life lessons to young boys about the significance of close brotherly bonds and harmonious living. Its deeper purpose was to model respectful, tight-knit relationships between brothers. 

The cultural event held at Local Ground, Niuland Town was graced by Minister for PHED and Cooperation, Government of Nagaland, Jacob Zhimomi, as the special guest of honour. 

Nagaland Baptist Church Council 23rd Triennial and 87th Annual Gathering 2024 was held on the theme ‘Experiencing God Together – Acts 2:42-47’ at Sumi Baptist Akukuhou Niuland from February 1 to 4. 

The four-day programme was hosted by Western Sumi Baptist Akukuhou Küqhakulu (WSBAK).
