Hands Arunachal innings defeat at the NCA stadium

Chümoukedima, February 4 (MExN): Nagaland handed an innings and 38 runs defeat to Arunachal Pradesh on the third day of their Ranji Trophy plate group game at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovima. 

Trailing by 188 runs, Arunachal faced a tough challenge against a formidable Nagaland bowling attack spearheaded by Imliwati Lemtur, who claimed an impressive 7 wickets, taking his match haul to 9 wickets. Adding to Arunachal’s misery, all-rounder Tahmeed claimed 2, completing his 50th 1st class wicket with claimed 2 while. Khrievitso Kense, who took four in the first innings, finished with a 5-wicket match haul, claiming 1 in the second innings.   

The Arunachal openers, Kumar Nyumpu (54 runs) and Doria (51 runs) provided a solid start but the batting collapsed after Doria fell before Nyumpu steadied the ship with an 86-ball 32-run 4th wicket partnership with skipper Obi. After Obi fell following a brief 42-ball vigil with Nyumpu, the latter also fell with the score at 149 and 6 wickets down. 

Ete took guard hitting a valiant 31-run but the floodgates opened at the other end with Imliwati demolishing the lower order. Number 10 batsman, Ramesh Solanki remained not out at 8 runs. 

The victory earned Nagaland a bonus point in the table and secured a place in the semi-finals, further helped by Meghalaya defeating Sikkim in the other plate group match. With the result, Nagaland qualified for the semi-finals and will go up against Hyderabad from February 9-12.
