Nagaland in the limelight through Dr. Ilin Kinimi

Dimapur, Jan 16 (MExN): In yet another achievement bringing laurels to the state, Dr. Ilin Kinimi has been conferred the “Endowment Award in Child Health (Pediatrics)” for her thesis on ‘Childhood Tuberculosis’.

She is one of only three recipients to be awarded a gold medal and citation by the Indian Academy of Pediatrics for the award this year. Out of 600 entries that were screened for the award, only 12 were invited for a presentation in front of a National Jury at the National Conference held at the Hotel Ashoka during January 4-8 this year. Dr. Ilin has sent in another research paper to the International Pediatrics Conference to be held in Canada.

Dr. Ilin, daughter of Mr& Mrs. I.K. Sema, Ex-Dy. Chief Minister, completed her higher and Senior Secondary Education from the Convent of Jesus and Mary, Shimla, and Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram. She is presently in the III year and will be obtaining an MD in Pediatrics within the next 2 months. On her future plans, Dr. Ilin would rather appear for her exams first and then decide on her course of action for the future.

In conversation with The Morung Express, Dr. Ilin admitted that it was difficult to break the barriers of preconceived notions that the rest of the nation had about people from the Northeast, but that with hard work and determination, everything was possible. Her advice to the youth was to work hard. It may also be worth mentioning that Dr. Ilin is the first Naga lady from the North East to obtain an MD from the prestigious Lady Hardinge Medical College, Delhi.
