Nagaland: Inter-college students’ seminar concludes

Kohima, April 22 (MExN): The Department of History, Modern College, Kohima organized a two-day state level inter-college students’ seminar on the topic ‘revisiting history, culture and traditions of Nagas’ on April 21 and 22. 

The seminar commenced with an inaugural session chaired by Alito Swu, HoD, Department of History while Assistant Professors Visetonu Natso and Neichupeu Losou moderated the technical sessions.

A total of 21 paper presenters from Dimapur Government College, Shamator College, Japfü Christian College, Don Bosco College and the host College participated in the seminar. 

Altogether 15 researched papers spread across three technical sessions were presented. Some of the paper topics included “Traditional Knowledge System of the Angami Naga”, “Rediscovering the Yimkhiung Naga: Religion, Festivals and Rituals”, “Traditional Costumes and Ornaments with Special reference to Sumi Tribe”, Naga Material Culture and Identity- A Probe”, “Tattoo Symbols and its Significance of the Chang Nagas”, Cultural Identity: A Delve into the Traditional Attires and Ornaments of the Tangkhul Nagas” etc. 

Chongshen Michael Chang of Japfü Christian College with the topic “Traditional Burial System of the Chang Nagas; Beliefs, Rituals and Practices was adjudged the best presenter of the two-day seminar. 

Chanini Lokho, Assistant Professor from the Department of B. Voc. gave the final observations remark with critical thoughts and ideas in the closing session.
