Peren, February 11 (MExN): A total of 6 district teams are participating in the12th Nagaland Inter-District Veteran Football Tournament, which kicked off at Mhainamtsi Village Ground, Jalukie under Peren on February 11.
The Peren District Veteran Football Association (PDVFA) is hosting the 12th edition which concludes on February 14.
Addressing the inaugural, Advisor Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland, S KeoshuYimkhiung encouraged the veterans not to target for championship title, but rather play to maintain good health.
He also appealed them to never give up playing and continue to inspire youngsters in the field of sports.
Keoshu also exhorted on maintaining team spirit while playing and advised the players to go back and mould up the youngsters especially the under-age players in their respective districts by with proper training activities.
Nagaland Veteran Football Association (NVFA) President K Kire (DGP Retd), meanwhile, highlighted that main idea of organising the tournament is to keep the veteran players fit as well as to encourage football among the younger generations
Ddwling on participation of only 6 teams this year, he also expressed hope that more would turn-up in the future.
Besides welcome address by PDVFA Convenor Arup Zeliang, the inaugural also featured cultural dances and the theme song by singer and song writer, Namkamlak.
As per the State DIPR, in the inaugural match Mokokchung defeated Mon by two goals to nil.
