Nagaland Governor P.B. Acharya today said that People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government attaches the highest priority to the maintenance of law and order and a peaceful environment in the state.
Measures will be taken to make the state police force modern and effective by equipping them with more modern weaponry, communication system, transport facilities and imparting rigorous training.
“Our jawans of Indian Reserve Battalion, NAP and District Police have rendered valuable services during elections and my government will continue to initiate measures for the welfare of policemen,” he said.
Governor placed on record his sincere appreciation of the efficiency, courage and determination that the government officials, personnel of the security forces, the state police and the central para military forces showed in conducting free and fair polls in the state recently.
He also congratulated the Election Commission of India and election department of the state for successful conduct of the elections.
Further, he appreciated the positive contribution of the churches, civil societies, tribal hohos, NGOs and all political parties in the election process.
“The people of Nagaland also demonstrated their indomitable democratic spirit by exercising their franchise in large numbers,” Acharya said.
Also wishing all the elected members to the 13th NLA, “the very best in their political endeavors,” he said “Elected members to the Assembly, whether they are on the treasury side or the opposition have a very crucial role to play in framing laws and guiding government policy as they represent the views of the people of Nagaland who have the supreme power and authority under our Constitution.”
He said that people’s expectation from elected members and government are very high.
“You have an onerous task to perform and a great responsibility to discharge as the people of Nagaland have reposed faith and confidence in you for peace and prosperity,” he said.
Further, stating that peace and stability are the pre-requisites for formulation and implementation of meaningful policies and programs, Acharya was hopeful that the elected members are fully aware of the tasks and responsibilities that lie ahead “for fulfilling the expectations of the electorate.”
