Mokokchung, October 21 (MExN): The Global Iodine Deficiency Disorders Prevention Day was observed with Urban ASHAs at conference hall, Chief Medical Officers Office, Mokokchung on October 21.
During a brief programme, Dr Limanaro DPO (UIP & RCH) presented on the significance of the day by stating that Iodine Deficiency Disorder is a public problem all over the world.

She highlighted that one out of every five people in India lives in IDD endemic areas. These disorders are caused by lack of iodine in the diet, which ranges from simple goiter, mental retardation, stunted growth of cretinism. She added, most of these disorders are permanent yet all of them are preventable only by consuming good quality iodized salt.

She called upon the ASHAs to disseminate the information on Iodine disorders, its consequences, control and preventive measures.
Salt testing was also demonstrated to ASHAs. The programme was chaired by L Kilangmeren Computor IEC.
