Keeping pace with the radical changes in the information and communication technology, the Department of Information and Public Relations (IPR), Nagaland marked a significant move by launching its news app called NagaNews on June 22 at the IPR Citadel, New Capital Complex, Kohima. The app was officially launched by Pausui Zeliang, Director, IPR.
“The requirements of communications have changed and evolved and so have the Department of IPR. We are trying to adapt and adopt to new demands of technology and means of communications. As delivery mechanism for dissemination of information has changed, we too are expanding our presence across a variety of new media platforms.” said Asangla Imsong, Deputy Director during the launch. The daily news and other related matters can now be accessed through smart phones, highlighted Imsong while talking about the major changes that Information and Communication Technology has caused in the way people live. Information and Communication technology has ignited and provoked radical and drastic changes that has affected and revolutionized the broadcast industry, most especially in immediacy and timeliness of news.
“The idea behind encapsulating all these changes today is to indicate that the Department is making every effort in disseminating the Government’s policies and activities effectively and in a timely manner. The launching of the NagaNews app is a significant move towards that direction.” added Imsong.
Naga news is a daily news bulletin published by IPR focusing on the government’s programs and policies and developmental activities.
The app was developed by Elysium enterprises, a company based in Kohima which specializes in Software Development. Ben Imchen, Director of Elysium enterprises who highlighted the components of the app also mentioned that the NagaNews app will have constant changes which will update itself automatically. The app contains the news bulletin, photo gallery, contacts of government officials and dignitaries, information section, and section for advertisements. The app is easily accessible where the user can type keywords in the search engine and receive the required information.
Currently the NagaNews app has been developed for android however the app will further upgrade to other platforms such as ios. The app can be downloaded in Google’s Play Store for free.
