Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA) in collaboration with the Nagaland Olympic Association today (NOA) joined the rest of the country by initiating the I#Cheer4India Tokyo 2020 Campaign to motivate the Tokyo Olympics bound Indian Sportspersons.
Addressing the launch at the Regional Centre of Excellence for Music & Performing Arts (RCEMPA) Advisor to Chief Minister of Nagaland, Abu Metha on Wednesday said, “here in Nagaland too, we are cheering for them. The motto is ‘we shall overcome’ and we are hoping that Tokyo 2020 will bring India a record number of medals.”
However, at the same time, he expressed that “it is unfortunate that not a single Naga sportsperson will walk the Olympic arena this time.” Pointing out that every Olympic, we talk about Dr. T Ao and Chekrovelu Swuro, he reminded that there is no short cut in sports. “You don’t bring medals by luck or by chance. A country, a nation, a people who finish at the top of the world has to deserve it.”
In this regard, he also said that one has to make investment, put in efforts, make sacrifices and constant strategies and challenges to be a champion. Sports, he noted is no longer seen as a hobby but a multi-billion-dollar industry. Putting across that sports take maximum live television, he added, “there is no other activity on earth that takes as much live television than sports.”
He further urged to create a new narrative for sports in Nagaland. “Let us aspire to produce Olympians, let us create positive careers for sports and games, opportunities and new vistas”, he said while wishing the Indian contingent all the best by expressing, “we all unite to send our best wishes to team India.”
Director of Youth Resources and Sports, T Akumla Chuba also expressed concern that Nagaland has not been producing any worthy sportsperson. “As we department, we try out best but we cannot do this alone”, she said. She further emphasized on the importance of coordination and stated happiness that the Nagaland Olympic Association has revamped and started to do things recently.
“Let us try to send some sportspersons from Nagaland who can represent India in the next Olympics”, she told the NOA.
