Nagaland joins nationwide COVID-19 vaccine drive

Restoration of communities to ‘wholeness and health,’ says CM

Nagaland on January 16 joined rest of India in what is touted as the launching of the world's biggest COVID-19 vaccination drive. 

Dr Sentimeren Aonok, Senior Consultant (ICU), at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) received the received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine in Nagaland.

Officially, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio launched the COVID-19 vaccination drive for Nagaland at the NHAK, Kohima. 

Taking to twitter after the launch, he expressed hope that it would be the beginning of ‘restoring communities to wholeness and health.’

 “Attended launch of pan-India rollout of COVID19 #vaccination drive by @narendramodi ji via VC. Also launched #COVID19Vaccine for Nagaland. As we join the country in the world’s largest vaccination prog., I hope it'll be the beginning of restoring communities to wholeness & health,” he later tweeted. 

In Dimapur, Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Minister, S Pangnyu Phom launched the drive at District Hospital, Dimapur. He was accompanied by Minister for Rural Development, Metsubo Jamir.

Taking to social media afterwards, Pangnyu “urged upon beneficiaries to follow proper guidelines issued by the competent authority.”

"Necessary protocol issued by the @MHFW shall be followed strictly during the implementation of the vaccination,” he tweeted. 

Meanwhile, updates on vaccination drives are coming from various district headquarters.  

Shashank Singh, Addl. Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung launched the drive at the Imkongliba District Memorial Hospital (IMDH). 

The first COVID-19 vaccine in the district was given to Dr HT Sangtam, a Senior specialist at IMDH.  

Zunheboto district kick started the COVID-19 vaccination drive at Town Hall with the official launch by the Deputy Commissioner, Peter Lichamo.

In Phek, the roll-out was carried out at the District Hospital Phek by Dr Vibeituonuo Mepfuo Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Phek.

Altogether 100 beneficiaries were successfully vaccinated with no untoward adverse reaction seen after the vaccination in Phek, State DIPR reported. 

DC Orenthung Lotha launched the first phase of COVID-19 vaccine at the Dr Motsuo Memorial District Hospital (DMMDH) Wokha.
