Nagaland: Keneizhakho Nakhro kicks off election campaign

Independent candidate from 8th Western Angami and sitting MLA, Keneizhakho Nakhro termed denial of NDPP ticket as ‘more advantage’ to him.

Speaking during the campaign kick-off and release of manifesto at Paramedical Colony, Kohima, Nakhro maintained that the denial of ticket ‘must have been done with a good reason best known to them.’

Citing this as an advantage for him, he said, “it has overwhelmed my constituency people with unstinted support and confidence to come back for the second term.”

He described the tenure during the 13th NLA as a ‘hard and challenging time’ owing to being in the opposition coupled with pandemic with limited time and resources.’ 

On why the 21 NPF MLAs shifted to NDPP, Nakhro said ‘politics without power cannot sustain’ promoting them to shift allegiance under the ‘undisputable leader of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’ to be on the road map of development.

However, he said the denial of NDPP party ticket came as a surprise.

“I take it as an advantage for me, and as the present political situation demand, I opted for Independent,” said Nakhro.

Briefly highlighting some notable achievements, he said various capacity building and skill development workshop has been organised for employment and trained 500 youths, constructed bore weeks at Officers Hill colony and Naga Hospital colony etc.

Stating his vision is towards partnering together for an equitable, sustainable and resilient future for all with key priorities on infrastructure, education, gender equity, responsible tourism, inclusive growth etc.

Nakhro also appealed to the people of the constituency to vote for him for a second term to continue the path of progress and development. He also assured to represent the people of his constituency with dedication and integrity of elected.

When asked if there’s any possibility of merging with either NDPP or BJP, Nakhro said ‘contesting from Independent ticket has a reason’ without elaborating more.

In the 8th Western Angami AC, Independent candidate Keneizhakho Nakhro and NDPP candidate Salhoutuonuo Kruse will have a straight fight in the ensuing general election.
