Nagaland: Key statistics on amenities in villages under Kohima district

All the villages under Kohima district have road connectivity, access to electricity, mobile phone service and fair price shops as on January 31, 2020, according to the latest survey report published by the state Directorate of Economics & Statistics. 

The survey report on local/block level statistics for local level planning 2020, under support for statistical strengthening (SSS) was released on August 25 in Kohima.

According to the data, all 94 villages in the seven rural development (RD) blocks of Kohima district have access to electricity and are all accessible by road.

The villages under Kohima district are connected by about 6% of the State’s public transport buses (government buses) while 22.5 % of the state’s private buses ply in the district. 72% of villages in Kohima district also have access to taxi services.

Regarding digital connectivity, the report indicated that all 94 villages in the district have access to mobile phone services but only 14% of villages have landline phone services. Common Service Centres are located in about 15% of the villages in the district.

52% of the villages are covered under postal service and all villages have access to fair price shops.

In education, 50% of the State’s Government Colleges are located in Kohima district while about 14% of the state’s private educational institutions are located in Kohima district.

About 7% of the State’s Government Primary School and Middle Schools are located in the district of Kohima.

In addition, 12% of the State’s Government High Schools, 31 % of Government Higher Secondary Schools are located in the district.

With regard to medical facilities, approximately 37% of villages have Sub-Centre facility; about 15% have Primary Health Centres; and about 2% have Community Health Centres. 

However, only 4% of the villages in the district have either private clinics or private hospitals.

In terms of financial inclusion, only 4% of the villages have Banks and ATM booths are located in just 3% of the villages in the district.

Regarding law and order, 8.5% and 31.8% of the State’s police stations and police beat posts respectively, are found in the villages the district.

Some other highlights of the survey regarding Kohima:
•    About 16% of villages in Kohima have Village Library.
•    Veterinary Health Centres are available to about 20% of the villages 
•    About 80% of the villages have Village Council Halls and 71% have playgrounds.
•    About 60% of the villages have access to public toilets 
•    About 44% have street lights.
•    In 91% of the villages, Self Help Groups (SHGs) have been formed, however only 31 villages have marketing sheds.
•    98% of the villages have Anganwadi Centres as well as Water Supply from the PHED.
•    About 7% of villages have indoor stadium facilities
