Nagaland: 38 new COVID-19 cases; Kiphire registers first case

Dimapur, August 19 (MExN): Kiphire, which had been the only COVID-19 free district in the state, registered its first confirmed case on Wednesday. 37 other new cases were also reported from the state on August 19.

Out of the 38 new cases that were detected, 29 are from Dimapur, seven are from Kohima and one each from Kiphire and Wokha. Earlier on Tuesday, it was reported that the sample of a returnee at a quarantine centre in Kiphire tested positive via preliminary TrueNat testing. The confirmatory RT-PCR results of the suspected case returned positive on August 19.

As of Wednesday, Phek and Longleng are the only districts in the state with no current active cases of COVID-19, according to the daily bulletin from the Health and Family Welfare Department. Recovery cases in the state also saw a continued increase with 42 recoveries on Wednesday, taking the total to 1706. With this, the total tally of infections in the state stands at 3558 with 1838 as active cases.

KP Bethesda Hospital sealed

KP Bethesda Hospital, Kohima has been sealed following detection of COVID-19 positive cases among staff. A notification issued through the DIPR stated that the hospital has been sealed with immediate effect in order to contain the spread of the disease/infection and for necessary contact tracing. Out Patient Department (OPD) and other medical related activities/functions of the Hospital are strictly restricted and all movement of persons within the sealed area is prohibited, it said.
