Peren, January 13 (MExN): The ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Peren, organised a training-cum-awareness programme on “Farm to Fork Approach for Strengthening Pig and Poultry Meat Value Chain and Enhancing Income of Tribal Farmers through ICAR Technologies and Input Distribution under TSP” at the Women Welfare Conference Hall, Jalukie, on January 13.
The programme brought together 107 farmers, including village chairmen and Head Gaon Buras from various villages of Peren district, to deliberate on good livestock management practices.
Dr K L Meena, Principal Scientist and Head, KVK Peren, and Programme Coordinator, spoke on KVK activities and the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) component. He expressed gratitude to the Director, ICAR–National Meat Research Institute (NMRI), Hyderabad, for extending support to farmers in the district, and underscored the importance of proper livestock management for sustainable agricultural development and socio-economic upliftment of tribal farmers.
Technical sessions followed, with Dr L Babita Devi, CTO (Animal Science), KVK Peren, delivering an interactive session on “Disease Management in Pigs and Poultry.” Z James Kikon, CTO (Soil Science), KVK Peren, spoke on “Integrated Farming System for Livelihood Improvement,” while Dr Prashant Kalal delivered a lecture on “Livestock Entrepreneurship.”
Following the sessions, dual-purpose Vanraja breed chicks were distributed to participating farmers. The distribution was sponsored by ICAR–NMRI, Hyderabad, under the TSP project.
Earlier, Dr Prashant Kalal, SMS (Fruit Science), KVK Peren, chaired the programme and welcomed the gathering, while the programme concluded with a vote of thanks by CTO Kikon.
