Nagaland launches 5th round of National Family Health Survey

Dimapur, July 10 (MExN): The fifth round of National Family Health Survey (NFHS) which will be covering all the 11 districts of Nagaland has been launched.

The survey has being taken with the main objectives of strengthening India’s demographic and health database by providing information which are reliable and relied upon to meet country’s data on the emerging health and family welfare issues, a press note informed. 

To do the survey, 120 trainees have been trained extensively for 28 days covering all aspects of women and child’s health which is the core of the whole survey, stated the release from the NFHS State Project Officer Alice Kamei.

The inaugural function of the NFHS-V was held on June 3 with commencement of training with Dr Vikato Kinimi CMO, Dimapur Civil Hospital as the Chief Guest at AIDA Hall Dimapur.

He appreciated the trainees for the service they would be providing for the community through this survey saying it was a noble job as it involves working with the people, the release said. 

Dr Kinimi also asserted that many people are not availing the services provided by the government because they feel that government health services or medicines are not effective and considering the private health institution are to be much better.

He also gave a brief highlight of how CMO office functions under him and different programmes that are run by the department which covers malaria, maternal health, immunization, TB, leprosy, etc.

An interaction session was followed where many issues on health sector was discussed.

The CMO extended help to the survey by providing guest lecturers during the extensive training which was held from June 3 to July 4 at AIDA Hall Dimapur, the release said.  

During the inaugural function, Dr Ali and Zaben Enny, Project Officer from International Institution of Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai highlighted the importance of NFHS. Pastor Thunglanbemo Ezung, Senjum Lotha Baptist Church read the word of God and a prayer for the success of the survey.

In her address, Kamei asserted a healthy mother and a healthy child can lead to healthy state that will give development. 

For this, the survey has its own importance both at national and state level, she added. 

The State Project Coordinator also requested all the concerned district authorities and public to extend all possible help and cooperation to the survey teams.
